What ordinary people can do well
- Place the bird in a quiet, ventilated container
- Keep handling to a minimum
- Call a licensed rehabilitator, rescue, or avian vet
- Pass on accurate context about where and how the bird was found
Ways to help beyond direct care
- Support local wildlife rehab groups
- Help with transport when asked
- Share correct contact info, not random internet advice
- Learn the difference between true distress and normal fledgling behaviour
Important: good intentions do not replace training. Prolonged home care can make outcomes worse when a licensed handoff was possible.
