Making Better DIY Bird Toys Safely

DIY toys can be excellent, but safety comes first. The best toy is not the most clever one, it is the one the bird can use without unnecessary risk.

What to think about first

  • Material safety and whether coatings, fibres, or metals are appropriate
  • Whether the toy size fits the bird’s beak, feet, and strength
  • How the toy is attached and whether it can trap toes or beaks
  • Whether the bird actually likes shredding, climbing, chewing, or foraging that style of toy
Important: complicated toys are not automatically better. If you cannot inspect and understand every part of the toy easily, it may be too risky.
